Violent Protests Rock Ladakh Region Over Statehood Dispute

Violent protests erupted in India's Ladakh region following clashes that left at least four dead and dozens injured. The protests were triggered by the imposition of a curfew in Leh, the capital of Ladakh, after clashes with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Local activist Sonam Wangchuk has been accused of fueling the violence, which stems from grievances over the 2019 decision to strip Ladakh of statehood. Ladakhis demand the restoration of statehood and greater autonomy.
