Defence Minister Dismisses Coup Plot Against Tinubu

Defence Minister Christoph Musa addressed allegations of a coup plot against President Bola Tinubu's administration during an interview on Arise Television. Musa described the alleged coup as poorly conceived and lacking the necessary support to succeed, asserting that ordinary Nigerians could thwart such plans without military intervention.

He expressed disappointment in the individuals allegedly involved, labeling them as confused and risking their careers. Musa noted that the military justice system would handle the matter through established procedures, allowing accused officers to defend themselves.

He emphasized that there is no reason for military personnel to be dissatisfied with the government, citing improvements in welfare and salaries. The allegations reportedly stemmed from disgruntled senior officers and were linked to a plan predating Tinubu's inauguration on May 29, 2023.

Following the arrests of several officers, the military confirmed ongoing investigations and court martial proceedings, with expectations for continued developments in the coming weeks.
