WHO Urges Osun State to Boost Health Research Investment

On April 7, during a joint event organized by the Osun State Government to mark World Health Day, the World Health Organization (WHO) representative, Oluwatoyin Ojediran, urged the Osun State government to enhance domestic investment in health research and innovation across its health academic institutions. Ojediran emphasized that the region cannot overcome its significant health challenges without a stronger commitment to evidence-based actions.

She acknowledged Osun's progress in areas such as routine immunization coverage and outbreak response but highlighted persistent challenges, particularly concerning malaria and maternal health. Jola Akintola, the Osun State Commissioner for Health, reaffirmed the administration's commitment to strengthening the state's health system, outlining key priorities including improving primary healthcare, advancing maternal and child health initiatives, and enhancing disease surveillance.

The event underscored the urgency of prioritizing maternal and newborn health, aligning with this year's global theme for World Health Day.
