Security in South-East Crucial for Nigeria's Unity

At the 2026 South-East Regional Security Summit in Umuahia, Abia State, the Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated that lasting peace and security in the South-East are essential for Nigeria's unity, economic growth, and national development. He asserted, “When the South-East is secure, Nigeria is stronger,” emphasizing that peace in every region allows democracy to flourish.

Idris outlined the government's commitment under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to protect lives and property through improved intelligence sharing, inter-agency coordination, and international partnerships. He highlighted ongoing investments in infrastructure, youth empowerment, education, and support for small businesses as critical to the security strategy.

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, called for stronger regional cooperation to tackle security challenges. The event also featured a goodwill message from Godswill Akpabio, emphasizing the National Assembly's commitment to legislative support for enhancing Nigeria's security architecture.
