Meta to Charge Nigerian Businesses ₦14 per WhatsApp Message

Starting October 1, 2026, Meta will implement a charge of approximately ₦14 per message for specific service messages sent through the WhatsApp Business Platform, which allows companies to integrate WhatsApp with customer-service systems. This change does not affect ordinary WhatsApp users but will impact businesses, particularly those using automation to send large volumes of messages.

The ₦14 charge is an approximate conversion of a reported $0.0101 fee and may fluctuate with exchange rates. Marketing messages will incur higher costs, estimated at ₦84 per message.

For instance, a fintech sending 500,000 chargeable messages could face costs around ₦6.8 million, while one million messages could rise to ₦13.5 million. The new pricing structure may compel businesses to reassess their customer communication strategies, especially given the potential for increased operational costs due to volume.
