Peter Obi Promises Jail for Election Rigging Offenders

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), declared his commitment to prosecuting and imprisoning anyone found guilty of rigging elections if he becomes president in 2027. During an interview with Arise News, Obi stated that his administration would maintain a zero-tolerance stance on electoral malpractice, regardless of the number of votes involved in any manipulation.

He asserted that even the manipulation of a single vote would result in legal consequences under his government. Obi emphasized the importance of involving opposition political parties in decision-making processes, stating, “No political party will be harassed; we will support them.” He expressed his intention to foster collaboration with opposition members, particularly in matters of state, to build a stable, united, and secure country for future generations.
