Obi Urges Vote Protection Ahead of 2027 Elections

On September 7, 2023, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), raised concerns regarding the safety and credibility of the upcoming 2027 general elections. Speaking in Ogugu, Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State during a thank-you tour, Obi urged Nigerians to actively protect their votes, emphasizing that the integrity of the electoral process is paramount.

He stated, “I am not worried about what the outcome of the 2027 general election will be. What worries me is the people and how they will protect their votes on election day.” Obi also challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to maintain its independence and resist political manipulation, calling for free, fair, and transparent elections.

His tour included interactions with community leaders and residents across Kogi, Benue, and Enugu states, where he noted common concerns such as insecurity, unemployment, and inadequate healthcare. Obi urged candidates to focus on issue-based campaigns rather than relying solely on rallies.
