APGA Founder Warns APC Over Rising Defections

Chekwa Okori, the founder and chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), raised alarms regarding the increasing defections from the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In an interview in Abuja on Wednesday, Okori questioned why the ruling party appears anxious despite its strong control over the National Assembly and a majority of state governments.

He interpreted the APC's actions as panic, suggesting that the party is more focused on governance than celebrating political victories. Okori argued that the trend signals fear and uncertainty within the political system rather than genuine ideological alignment.

He expressed concern about the shrinking space for opposition parties, emphasizing that democracy thrives when political actors can compete on equal footing. Okori warned that attempts to weaken opposition voices could escalate political tensions and create instability, stressing the importance of allowing free participation in the democratic process to sustain Nigeria's democratic growth.
