Atiku Selects Amaechi as VP Candidate for 2027 Elections

Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stated that Atiku Abubakar selected Rotimi Amaechi as his vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 elections due to Amaechi's proximity to the South-East region. Okonkwo clarified that this decision was not a slight against the Igbo people, despite the South-East not having produced a presidential or vice-presidential candidate since 1999.

He noted that earlier preferences for the vice-presidential slot were directed towards the South-East, but the situation changed when Peter Obi sought the ADC presidential ticket and left the party's nomination process, leaving fewer options for Atiku. Ultimately, Atiku settled on Amaechi, who is considered the nearest person to the South-East.

Okonkwo emphasized that the ADC is committed to ensuring fair representation for the South-East and will continue to address concerns raised by its members in internal discussions leading up to the 2027 general elections.
