CDS Olufemi Oluyede Recognized for Military Leadership

The Defence Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DECAN) honored Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), for his leadership of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and commitment to strengthening joint military operations. The award was presented on 12 October at the DECAN Conference on National Security and Awards 2026, held at the Army Command Officers’ Mess 1 in Asokoro, Abuja.

Oluyede, represented by Maj.-Gen. Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, was recognized for his role in coordinating the operations of the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force to tackle evolving security challenges. His leadership philosophy emphasizes inter-service cooperation, personnel welfare, and a whole-of-government approach to national security.

At the conference, Oluyede urged defence journalists to work with the military to combat misinformation and highlighted the importance of technology and intelligence in modern warfare. The award underscores the significance of strategic military leadership and constructive military-media engagement in advancing Nigeria’s security objectives.
