Professor Lawal Discusses Nigeria's Development Paradox

During the 41st inaugural lecture at the Federal University in Lokoja, Professor Lawal addressed the paradox of development in Nigeria, highlighting that development is not merely about wealth accumulation or infrastructure expansion but about empowering citizens and fostering social connections. He criticized the current leadership class for lacking moral qualities, which undermines public trust and leads to the manipulation of resources.

Professor Lawal noted that Nigeria's policies often change with leadership transitions, jeopardizing long-term development plans. He emphasized that the country faces a unique development challenge, where technological endeavors lack moral substance and social significance.

The professor called for a recalibration of institutions to prioritize common welfare over sectional interests, advocating for good governance, accountability, and respect for the rule of law. He was commended by Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibiley for his insights on Nigeria's development issues, which he argued must be addressed through a commitment to transparency and inclusivity.
