Ekiti Election Raises Concerns for 2027 Poll Integrity

Public affairs analyst Godwin Omini expressed serious concerns regarding the conduct of the recent Ekiti State governorship election, which took place on a Saturday. He stated that the election outcome poses a danger signal for the upcoming 2027 elections.

Omini's remarks followed allegations of partiality by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which declared Biodun Oyebanji as the winner of the governorship election. Omini highlighted the troubling pattern of alleged collusion between INEC officials and the All Progressives Congress (APC), which reportedly facilitated the transfer of approximately 400,000 uncollected Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

He noted that the distribution of these cards was done in a manner that compromised the electoral process, undermining public confidence in Nigeria's electoral system. The reactions from the People's Democratic Party and the African Democratic Congress further underscore the gravity of the situation.
