INEC Chairman: Ekiti, Osun Elections Crucial for 2027

During a meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) in Ado Ekiti, INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan described the forthcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun as a significant litmus test for the 2027 general elections.

He warned against the spread of misinformation and fake news, which could create panic during the elections, urging security agencies to remain vigilant against individuals or groups attempting to disrupt the electoral process. Amupitan assured stakeholders of INEC's commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections that reflect the choices of voters.

He noted that preparations are underway, including the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) across 177 registration areas in Ekiti State. Amupitan also highlighted the identification of high-risk zones prone to electoral violence and emphasized the need for security personnel to prevent illegal financial transactions that could compromise the electoral process.

He called for intensified public sensitization campaigns to counter misinformation ahead of the elections.
