Haaland's Controversial Goal Stands After VAR Review

On Saturday, Erling Haaland scored a controversial goal for Manchester City against Manchester United at Old Trafford, which was initially flagged for offside. After a lengthy VAR review, the decision was overturned, confirming the goal stood.

Haaland converted a deflected cross from Josko Gvardiol, and despite the assistant referee's offside flag, VAR official Matt Donohue determined that Haaland was onside, kept in play by Manchester United defender Patrick Dorgu's outstretched foot. The review process was extended, leading to frustration among fans, and the ruling raised questions about the application of the offside law, particularly regarding Enzo Fernandez's positioning.

Although Fernandez attempted to play the ball from an offside position, he was ruled not to have interfered. Haaland's goal marked his ninth in Manchester derbies, setting a new record.

Manchester United's manager expressed dissatisfaction with the decision-making process, stating that technology should enhance accuracy but is complicating it instead.
