Sowore Rejects Opposition Summit Invitation, Critiques Leaders

Omoyele Sowore, the president of the African Action Congress (AAC), explained his reasons for declining an invitation to a recent opposition summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State. Sowore expressed his belief that Nigeria requires genuine alternatives to the existing political actors, whom he described as "recycled failed leaders." He criticized the summit, which included prominent figures such as former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, arguing that politicians who have overseen years of corruption and stagnation cannot suddenly transform into champions of progress.

Sowore emphasized that the AAC remains focused on building a people-oriented movement that accounts for real change, rather than participating in political arrangements that merely repackage old political figures into new opposition forces. He further accused major political parties across the country of promoting similar practices despite presenting themselves as different.

The summit aimed to strengthen unity among opposition parties and create coordinated strategies to address Nigeria's socio-economic and security challenges ahead of future elections.
