Atiku Abubakar Defends AUN's Location in Yola, Not Lagos

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, defended the establishment of the American University of Nigeria (AUN) in Yola, Adamawa State, stating that profit was not his primary motivation. In a post on X, he clarified that the university was created as an investment in education and the development of the North.

Atiku noted that if profit had been his main goal, he would have chosen more commercially advantageous locations like Abuja or Lagos. He expressed his desire to invest in his community, create opportunities, and provide access to world-class education in a region that has long needed it.

Additionally, Atiku revealed that AUN is no longer his personal or family property, having signed a deed of gift to transfer ownership to the community it serves. He acknowledged concerns about poverty and the sight of children begging on the streets, reiterating his commitment to education and community development.
