Fasanya Recommends Successor to Buhari After SMEDAN Exit

Dr. Olawal Fasanya, who previously served as the Director General of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), recommended his successor to President Muhammadu Buhari after departing from the agency.

During a public presentation in Abuja on Thursday, Fasanya expressed his absolute confidence in the competence and integrity of his successor, emphasizing the importance of commitment to the MSME sector. He disclosed that he left a lucrative position at the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), where he earned approximately N1.2 million monthly, to pursue a role at SMEDAN, which paid significantly less at around N300,000.

Fasanya stated that his decision was driven by a desire to make a meaningful contribution rather than for financial gain. He also reflected on the impact of SMEDAN's programs on 39 million Nigerians and noted the historical significance of his tenure.

His successor's appointment was approved by Buhari on June 6, 2022.
