Akon Explains Signing Wizkid Over Drake in 2008

This financial demand influenced Akon's decision to pursue other emerging talents. During a visit to Nigeria, Akon was introduced to Wizkid by Banky W, who had discovered Wizkid's talent.

Akon was impressed by Wizkid's potential despite limited resources and believed he could achieve international success. Wizkid, whose real name is Ayodeji Balogun, has since become a prominent figure in the global music scene, helping to popularize Afrobeat.

His collaboration with Drake on the song "One Dance" in 2016 further solidified his status as a leading African artist.
