OPM Pastor Calls for Abolishment of JAMB Exams

Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, the founder of Omega Power Ministries, has urged the federal government to abolish the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations, describing them as outdated and a source of unnecessary stress for students. Speaking during a sermon in Port Harcourt, he questioned the relevance of a unified tertiary matriculation examination, noting the multiple stages students must navigate to gain admission into tertiary institutions, which he believes places undue pressure on candidates.

Chinyere highlighted that students are required to sit for the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exams, followed by JAMB and post-UTME screenings, which can lead to frustration if they fail to meet departmental cut-off marks. He criticized the early examination schedules, which often expose candidates to security risks and additional financial burdens, as many students and their sponsors must arrange accommodations to avoid missing exams.

Chinyere advocated for a more flexible admissions process, akin to those in foreign universities, allowing students to apply directly without centralized entrance exams.
