Obi Calls for Urgent Leadership Reform in Nigeria

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, stated that Nigeria urgently requires leadership reform. He made this assertion in a post on his official X account after meeting with young Nigerian professionals in Washington, DC, including medical doctors, educators, and entrepreneurs.

The discussions focused on good governance and the challenges Nigeria faces, highlighting that the most critical reform needed is in leadership itself. Obi pointed out that Nigeria possesses abundant human and natural resources but suffers from a leadership deficit that fails to prioritize citizens and manage public resources responsibly.

He stressed the necessity for leadership that strengthens institutions, invests in education and healthcare, and creates job opportunities. Obi, who transitioned from the Labour Party to the African Democratic Congress in March 2026, reiterated that Nigeria is blessed with talent and resources but has long lacked leadership that genuinely serves the people.
