Yiaga Africa Boss Explains Senate's Concerns Over E-Transmission of Election Results in Nigeria

Samson Itodo, the Executive Director of Yiaga Africa, elucidated the Senate's apprehension regarding the adoption of electronic transmission of election results in Nigeria. Itodo highlighted the fear among politicians of the technical vulnerabilities and the potential for manipulation in the electoral process.

The Senate recently rejected a proposal to make electronic transmission of election results compulsory, with lawmakers voting against the amendment. Itodo emphasized the importance of implementing safeguards to reduce risks and prevent attacks on the electoral system.

He noted that while no system is entirely free of weaknesses, proper management and safeguards can mitigate risks. Itodo also pointed out that the current collation stage in Nigeria's result management system is particularly vulnerable to tampering, necessitating increased transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
