Peter Obi Criticizes ICPC Over El-Rufai's Detention

Peter Obi, a former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, expressed his concerns regarding the treatment of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC). Obi questioned why El-Rufai was being treated as if he were fleeing, emphasizing the importance of dignity until proven guilty.

El-Rufai was detained by the ICPC on February 18, following a transfer from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS). He faces charges related to cybercrime, with a court hearing set for April 23, 2026.

In response to his detention, El-Rufai has filed a lawsuit against the ICPC and DSS, accusing these agencies of abusing their power and unlawfully detaining him while investigating allegations of money laundering and abuse of office.
