CAF Postpones 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially postponed the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which was originally scheduled to commence on March 17, 2026. The new dates for the tournament are set for July 25 to August 16, 2026.

Samson Adamu, the CAF Secretary General, explained that the decision to delay was not easy but was made to prioritize the quality of the tournament. He emphasized the importance of providing the best possible environment for the teams to compete effectively.

Adamu noted that the timing constraints would not allow for a successful competition, especially in light of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for men. The postponement aims to ensure that WAFCON is organized under optimal conditions, reflecting CAF's commitment to the development of women's football in Africa.
