Morocco Ready for 2026 WAFCON Amid Postponement Mystery

Morocco has confirmed its readiness to host the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which is scheduled to kick off on March 17. Despite this, there has been a last-minute postponement of the tournament, with the reasons for the delay remaining unclear.

Moroccan authorities have insisted that the country is fully prepared to stage the tournament. Morocco has increasingly positioned itself as a hub for continental football, having hosted the WAFCON in 2022 and the Women's Champions League in 2024, along with other significant tournaments.

The recent controversy surrounding the men's senior AFCON final, where Senegal walked off in protest over a late referee decision, has overshadowed Morocco's preparations. Following a complaint from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, CAF's disciplinary committee rejected an appeal regarding the match's outcome, leading to sanctions including a five-match ban for Senegal's head coach, Pape Thiaw.

The lack of clarity surrounding the postponement has deepened concerns, particularly regarding Morocco's domestic football calendar.
