Wike Attacks Atiku's Anti-Corruption Stance, Backs Tinubu for 2027

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has questioned Atiku Abubakar's credibility on corruption while declaring his commitment to President Tinubu's reelection.
Nyesom Wike, Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory Minister, has launched a fresh offensive against former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, accusing him of hypocrisy on corruption matters. During town hall meetings in Rivers State on Monday, Wike challenged Atiku's recent remarks in which the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate urged Nigerians to accept funds distributed by ruling party officials, describing such money as stolen public resources.
Wike questioned how Atiku could position himself as an anti-corruption advocate while simultaneously encouraging citizens to benefit from allegedly corrupt funds. The minister's critique extended to Atiku's running mate, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.
Wike characterized their joint ticket as representing a 'combined slate of corruption,' asserting that the partnership lacks the electoral strength to secure required constitutional vote thresholds in key states, including Rivers. He argued that such a coalition possesses no realistic pathway to victory in the 2027 presidential race.
In contrast, Wike expressed unwavering dedication to President Bola Tinubu's reelection bid. Speaking at the same town hall meetings, he declared that thoughts of securing Tinubu's second term occupied his mind during daily activities—eating, sleeping, and working.
Wike credited Tinubu's administration with recognizing Rivers State through ministerial appointments and federal development projects, positioning this as justification for local support ahead of 2027. Wike's remarks represent an intensification of political positioning as 2027 approaches.
The FCT Minister, a former governor of Rivers State, has emerged as a prominent voice mobilizing support for the incumbent administration while simultaneously dismantling opposition figures. His characterization of Atiku's corruption messaging as self-contradictory forms part of a broader strategy to undermine the credibility of potential challengers to Tinubu.
