Wike Defends FCT Land Allocation Policy Amid Criticism

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), addressed criticisms regarding the allocation of land to foreign diplomats, asserting that the policy is designed to drive investment and urban development. During a project inspection on Thursday, Wike stated that the FCT government allocates land based on development agreements rather than selling it outright.

He criticized major media outlets for being profit-driven and accused them of hypocrisy. Wike mentioned that the government allocates land based on specific conditions tied to investment proposals, including the payment of required fees.

He referred to the case of Jabi Lake, where land was allocated 20 years ago for a tourism hub that remains undeveloped. Wike dismissed emotional arguments about land allocation, stating that high-value areas require significant investment to transform them into world-class facilities.

He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to prioritizing realistic urban development and investment in the FCT.
