Wike: FCT Local Contractors Cry Out Over Unpaid ₦5.2 Billion

Local contractors in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are raising concerns over the non-payment of a total of ₦5.2 billion owed to them. One protester highlighted that individual debts ran into hundreds of millions, urging Governor Wike to address the issue directly.

Okeke Benardine, a contractor, emphasized the need for prompt payment, citing personal outstanding debts of millions. Another contractor, Adebola Benson, claimed to have been arrested for inquiring about delayed payments.

Despite the protests, Governor Wike swiftly dismissed the claims, stating that contracts worth billions had been awarded to local contractors. The contractors expressed frustration through placards, demanding their dues be settled promptly.

Governor Wike's response indicates a discrepancy between the contractors' claims and the government's position on the issue.
