Wike and Fubara Unite for Tinubu's Re-election Campaign

Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister and political godfather, stated that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has rectified his past mistakes by rejoining the political alliance that facilitated his rise to power. Both leaders will now support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's re-election bid.

Their relationship had deteriorated over two years into a significant power struggle in Rivers State, leading to political instability. The reconciliation appears to favor Wike, as Fubara accepted several conditions: he will complete his current term without pursuing a second term in 2027, cede the nomination power for all 23 local government chairpersons to Wike, and endorse Wike's preferred gubernatorial candidate, Kingsley Chinda.

Additionally, Fubara settled outstanding allowances for 27 pro-Wike lawmakers, who subsequently halted impeachment proceedings against him. Given Rivers State's economic importance, maintaining political stability is crucial as the 2027 elections approach.
