Wike Drops Fubara's Impeachment for Re-election Withdrawal

Nyesom Wike, the Governor of Rivers State, stated that the impeachment process against Governor Fubara was dropped under the condition that Fubara would not seek re-election. Fubara announced his withdrawal from the contest, emphasizing the need for peace and unity in the state.

Kingsley Chinda, a member of the House of Representatives, expressed that Wike's decision to withdraw was expected, as Fubara should not have collected the APC nomination form given the agreement reached regarding the impeachment. The impeachment process against Fubara was endorsed by Rivers lawmakers, culminating from a protracted power tussle.

Wike, who is also the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, vowed to oppose Fubara's re-election bid, accusing him of violating a peace agreement signed with President Bola Tinubu.
