Wike Commends Tinubu for Signing Electoral Act Amendment

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), praised President Bola Tinubu for his prompt assent to the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026. In a statement issued on Wednesday by Lere Olayinka, Wike described Tinubu's action as a demonstration of his commitment to promoting democratic processes in Nigeria.

He noted that the immediate assent to the bill would help end unnecessary protests and prepare the nation for upcoming elections, thus preventing electoral loss. Wike emphasized that democracy is a continuous evolution and that the Electoral Act should be viewed as a means to strengthen the democratic process.

He congratulated President Tinubu for not keeping Nigerians waiting for 24 hours before signing the bill into law, underscoring the role of the National Assembly in enhancing democracy in the country.
