Wike Dismisses Obi's Claims of 2023 Election Victory

Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory Minister, responded to claims made by former presidential candidate Peter Obi and his "Obidient" movement regarding their alleged victory in the 2023 presidential election in Rivers State. Wike firmly rejected these claims, stating that the supposed victory was a product of imagination and social media, not reflective of the actual election results.

He asserted that election outcomes are determined at polling units and announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), rather than by public sentiment or selective results. Wike pointed out that Rivers State has over 7,000 polling units across its 23 local government areas, indicating that claims based on a few polling units are unfounded.

He further stated that he does not view either Peter Obi or the Peoples Democratic Party candidate as a political threat in Rivers State, insisting that neither could defeat him there. His comments were made during a TVC's Journalists Hangout programme monitored in Abuja.
