Wike Urges Professional Bodies to Attract Development

On Tuesday, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, challenged professional bodies in Nigeria to cease their public criticisms and instead work towards attracting tangible development to their institutions. During a courtesy visit from the Body of Benchers, led by Chairman Albert Akpomudji, Wike stated that frequent criticism of government leadership does not contribute to progress.

He noted that the current administration is nearing completion of an annex building for the Body of Benchers and has made significant progress on access roads around the Nigerian Law School and EFCC Academy, with the latter being 98% complete. Wike criticized the tendency of professional groups to focus on negative aspects of governance, arguing that constructive engagement with the government would yield better results.

He highlighted the need for leadership within these bodies to seek government intervention to improve infrastructure and support the judiciary rather than compromise the integrity of the legal profession.
