Wike Faces Backlash for Threatening TV Anchor Live

Wike's remarks were made in response to Okinbaloye's concerns about Nigeria's political climate and the potential drift towards a one-party state ahead of the 2027 elections. His comments sparked outrage, with Amnesty International Nigeria condemning them as reckless and violent, warning that such rhetoric from a high-ranking public official could incite attacks on journalists and erode press freedom.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, led by President Alhassan Yahaya, also condemned Wike's statement, calling it a direct threat to press safety and urging the minister to retract his statement and issue a public apology. Various civil society organizations joined in the condemnation, emphasizing the need for the government to protect journalists and uphold democratic values.
