Wike's Clash with APC Governors May Aid Atiku in 2027

The ongoing dispute between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and a group of APC governors, led by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, is perceived as a critical fracture in President Bola Tinubu's political alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections. Political strategist Dare Glintstone Akinniyi stated that the clash represents differing visions for achieving a Tinubu victory.

Wike's strategy involves maintaining his PDP structure while supporting Tinubu, which he believes gives him leverage. He criticized the APC governors as "politically lazy," urging them to mobilize at polling units.

Conversely, the governors fear that Wike's alignment with the PDP undermines their loyalty to the APC, risking their electoral success. Akinniyi posits that the ADC, led by Atiku Abubakar, stands to gain from this internal conflict, as it highlights the fragmentation within the APC.

Wike's coalition could lead to ticket-splitting, benefiting ADC candidates in various regions, particularly in the North Central, South-South, and South East.
