Tinubu to Mediate Wike-APC Governors Conflict Ahead of 2027

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, currently on vacation in France, is expected to personally address the escalating conflict between All Progressives Congress (APC) governors and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike before the weekend, as confirmed by a senior presidential aide. Tinubu's intervention aims to mitigate the dispute's impact on the APC's preparations for the 2027 elections.

Wike, a leader in the People's Democratic Party (PDP) serving in Tinubu's cabinet, has been forming a Rainbow Coalition to support Tinubu's presidency while backing candidates against APC contenders in governorship and senatorial races. He accused APC governors AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Hope Uzodimma of attempting to undermine him politically.

Uzodimma, chair of the APC Progressive Governors' Forum, rejected Wike's coalition, asserting that APC governors would not support any arrangement that threatens party unity. Wike countered by labeling the governors as politically weak and asserting his right to support candidates of his choice.

The conflict also involves political strategies for the 2031 elections and Wike's backing of PDP candidates against APC governors.
