Wike's Coalition Faces Rejection from APC Governors

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, is experiencing significant political pushback as his Rainbow Coalition, aimed at supporting President Bola Tinubu's 2027 re-election, clashes with the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF). Chaired by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, the PGF has declared that APC governors will not endorse candidates outside the party.

This decision was made during a closed-door meeting at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, where the governors pledged to lead Tinubu's re-election campaign in their states. Wike's coalition was effectively dismissed, highlighting his diminished influence in the political landscape.

The presence of Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, at the meeting further emphasized Wike's lack of significance in the governors' collective strategy. Wike, a former governor, now finds himself at odds with the very governors whose power he once wielded, as he navigates the implications of his current ministerial role.
