Wilfred Ndidi, the captain of the Nigerian national football team, mourns the sudden demise of his father, Mr. Sunday Ndidi, in a car accident near Agbor, Delta State. The tragic news was confirmed by his Turkish club, Besiktas. Ndidi shared an emotional tribute on Instagram, expressing regret over their unfinished conversations. He dedicated his first-ever national team goal to his late father, mimicking the celebrations of Nigerian football legends like Celestine Babayaro and Kanu Nwankwo.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) and Nation Sports Commission (NSC) sent heartfelt condolences, with NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, praising Ndidi's dedication during the recent Africa Cup of Nations. NSC Director-General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, and NFF Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, also expressed shock and offered prayers for Ndidi's family during this difficult time.
