Winners of 2025 Mike Okonkwo Essay Emerge, to Receive Prizes September 4

The winners of the 2025 Mike Okonkwo Annual Essay Competition for Secondary School Students in Nigeria have been announced. Davina Phillips from Bloombreeds School in Port Harcourt, Aniki Emmanuella Onizi from Babcock High School in Ilishan Remo, and Maryam Opeyemi Ilyas from Isawo Comprehensive High School in Ikorodu emerged as the top three winners.

Chief Examiner Akachi Ezeigbo revealed that Phillips secured the first position by scoring 70% in the first round and 80% in the second round. The competition aimed to test students' ability to write under regulated examination conditions and encourage creativity in their responses.

The winners will receive cash prizes, laptops, and computers, with the awards ceremony scheduled for September 4 at the Civic Center in Lagos. The competition, launched in 2004 by Presiding Bishop TREM Mike Okonkwo, aims to promote academic excellence and ICT development among secondary school students.
