Women Coalition Demands End to Political Witch-Hunt

A coalition of 100 women groups in Kaduna State has demanded an end to what they describe as a political witch-hunt against former governor Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai and his aides. The coalition, which includes notable figures such as Hon Bashir Saidu, Hon Hafsat Baba, and Hajiya Laila Gambo Umaru, expressed their concerns in a statement.

They claim there is a sustained campaign of political persecution and intimidation directed at El-Rufai and his associates, which undermines the constitutional rights and liberties of citizens. The coalition emphasized that El-Rufai remains a significant figure in Nigeria's political landscape, citing his role as a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his contributions to the party's success, including support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's campaign in 2023.

They called for the immediate release of individuals detained in a manner inconsistent with the law and urged security agencies and anti-corruption bodies to remain impartial and free from political influence.
