Women Lead Campaign for Open Defecation Free Status in Kwali

Women leaders from 16 communities in Kundu Ward of Kwali Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have initiated a grassroots campaign to achieve Open Defecation Free (ODF) status through community-led sanitation and hygiene promotion. This initiative is implemented by the Resource Conservation and Development Initiative (RCDI) with support from ActionAid Nigeria, under the Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership Project funded by Global Affairs Canada.

Ms. Mary Jane Ukeagbu, Programme Lead and Programme Officer of RCDI, stated that the project empowers women to lead sanitation awareness and promote healthy living. Activities include training 80 women as community champions to conduct house-to-house sensitization campaigns.

The project will also distribute reusable sanitary pads to women and girls to enhance menstrual hygiene management. Mrs. Aminat Dada, WASH Coordinator of Kwali Area Council, praised the initiative, noting it would strengthen existing sanitation efforts and contribute significantly to achieving ODF status in the area.
