Imo State Launches Cervical Cancer Screening Initiative

On Thursday, the Imo State government, under the leadership of Governor Hope Uzodimma, officially launched a cervical cancer screening initiative. This event was part of a broader campaign to eliminate cervical cancer, supported by the World Health Organization and various stakeholders.

Governor Uzodimma highlighted the importance of community involvement in disseminating information about the cancer elimination program, urging traditional rulers and community leaders to spread the message in towns, markets, churches, and schools. First Lady Chioma Uzodimma, who chairs the cervical cancer elimination program, underscored the urgency of identifying women with the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is linked to cervical cancer.

The initiative received a financial commitment of N1 billion, with Governor Uzodimma expressing gratitude to the wife of the President of the Senate, Oluremi Tinubu, for her support of the program.
