Over 1,000 Screened for Colorectal Cancer in Imo State

The David Omenukor Foundation conducted a large-scale cancer screening initiative, screening over 1,000 individuals for colorectal cancer in Imo State. This event, held at the Golden Vista Hotel, was part of the 2026 colorectal cancer awareness month campaign themed "Blue Hat, Bow Tie." The First Lady of Imo State, Barr.

Chioma Uzodimma, praised the foundation's proactive approach and highlighted the importance of early detection in combating late-stage cancer diagnoses. She urged the public to remain vigilant for symptoms such as persistent changes in bowel habits, blood in stool, abdominal discomfort, and unexplained fatigue.

Dr. Chioma Vivian Egu represented the Health Commission, stressing the critical need for early detection.

Dr. Christoph Ekwunif noted the growing concern of early-onset colorectal cancer in Nigeria and emphasized that early screening is an effective preventive strategy.

The event also featured health education sessions and workshops led by experts, aiming to raise awareness and encourage proactive health measures among the public.
