Kwara Residents Demand Action Amid Rising Insecurity

Residents of Kwara South staged a protest due to worsening insecurity, characterized by increasing cases of killings, kidnappings, and displacement across several communities. The Kwara South Development Forum organized the protest, condemning the deteriorating security crisis and alleging that armed groups are conducting coordinated attacks that overwhelm local communities and weaken existing security structures, particularly local vigilante groups.

Protesters recounted personal tragedies, including family members being killed or kidnapped, and expressed fears that ongoing insecurity has led to school closures and economic disruption, forcing families to flee their homes. They appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for urgent action to strengthen local vigilante groups and enhance the capacity of security agencies.

The protest highlighted the urgent need for increased security personnel and intelligence-driven operations to restore safety and stability in the region.
