Nigerian Workers Plan Nationwide Protests Against Sachet Alcohol Ban

Employees of companies producing sachet alcohol beverages below 200ml in Nigeria, represented by groups like AEGI Food Beverage Tobacco Senior Staff Association and the National Union of Food Beverage Tobacco Employees, are rejecting the ban imposed by NAFDAC. The workers are planning nationwide protests to challenge the ban, which they argue could lead to significant job losses affecting millions of Nigerians.

NAFDAC's Director-General, Mojisola Adeyeye, engaged with protest leaders but maintained that the ban would stay until legislative changes. Labor unions and civil society organizations, including the Coalition to Protect Consumer Rights, are mobilizing for protests to reverse the ban, citing concerns about consumer rights and livelihoods.

The workers are demanding a reversal of the ban and are prepared to escalate their protests to the National Assembly in Abuja if their grievances are not addressed.
