World Bank Commends Ogun State's Investment in Primary Healthcare

The World Bank has commended Ogun State for its sustained investment in primary healthcare, recognizing it as a critical foundation for building the state's human capital and securing its future. Galina Vincelett, the World Bank Vice President for Operations Policy and Country Services, praised Ogun State's efforts during a visit to the Makun Primary Healthcare Center in Sagamu Local Government Area. The center is one of 75 primary healthcare facilities in the state that have been upgraded through the World Bank Impact Project. The World Bank emphasized that the impact of these investments goes beyond immediate healthcare outcomes, contributing to the resilience of the health system.

Dr. Tomi Coker, the Commissioner for Health in Ogun State, disclosed that the state government has solarized primary healthcare centers across the state to ensure uninterrupted 24-hour healthcare services. The solar power initiative has strengthened routine immunization and child health delivery. Dr. Coker highlighted the World Bank's support for 236 flagship health facilities in the state, delivering integrated immunization services on a biweekly basis within host communities.

Governor Dapo Abiodun's administration was praised for its vision and support for the impactful healthcare project. The project manager, Kofoworola Olajide, described the initiative as a landmark achievement in Ogun State's drive to strengthen primary healthcare delivery, emphasizing the decentralization of facilities and the provision of medical equipment to enhance service delivery.
