Ruiz and Gavi Honored with Tomatoes in Hometown Tribute

Fabián Ruiz and Gavi, midfielders for Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona respectively, were honored by their hometown of Los Palacios y Villafranca after contributing to Spain's victory in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. During an official reception at the town hall on Wednesday, the players, adorned with their World Cup gold medals, were welcomed by local officials and supporters.

Following a local tradition, they stepped on weighing scales to determine the quantity of tomatoes they would receive, with Ruiz receiving 85kg and Gavi 68.5kg. The town council announced plans to rename football fields after both players and to build a monument dedicated to them and former Spain winger Jesús Navas, who also received a similar tribute after Spain's Euro 2024 victory.

The council emphasized that this tribute recognizes the players' achievements and their inspirational roles for future generations.
