World Health Summit 2026 Opens in Nairobi for Health Action

The World Health Summit Regional Meeting 2026 officially opened in Nairobi on April 27, 2026, with a strong call for action on resilient health systems. The event brought together 2,000 global health leaders, policymakers, and research partners to advance solutions for stronger health systems.

H.E. William Ruto, the President of Kenya, underscored the urgent need for a decisive shift in Africa's position within the global health architecture, urging African health institutions and donor agencies to move beyond fragmented approaches.

The summit, hosted by Aga Khan University in partnership with the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health Kenya, featured 80 sessions focusing on strengthening health system resilience and advancing universal health coverage. Prof. Axel Pri, President of the World Health Summit, highlighted the importance of translating dialogue into practical action.

The meeting aimed to address interconnected challenges such as climate change, chronic diseases, and financial resource gaps, ultimately seeking to create a coherent health ecosystem in Africa.
