Anambra Offers Free Hypertension Checks for Residents

Anambra State will offer free hypertension checks at primary healthcare centers and general hospitals across the state from May 17 to May 19, 2026, as part of activities to commemorate World Hypertension Day. Dr.

Afam Obidik, the state Commissioner for Health, announced this during a press briefing in Awka. The theme for this year's event is "Control Hypertension, Together," emphasizing the importance of regular blood pressure checks to combat hypertension, a major cause of cardiovascular disease affecting over a billion people globally.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo's administration has identified hypertension as a significant health threat and is conducting an aggressive campaign against it. The initiative aims to provide residents with access to necessary medical care and effective management of hypertension at no cost, regardless of their ethnic or religious affiliations.

The campaign will also include educational programs to raise public awareness about hypertension's prevalence and consequences.
