FG to Empower 37,000 Women in Nigeria's Dairy Sector

During the 2026 World Milk Day conference held in Abuja, Minister of Livestock Development Idi Mukhtar Maiha announced the Federal Government's plan to feminize livestock value chains and empower 37,000 women and youth. This initiative aims to transform Nigeria's dairy industry and accelerate economic opportunities for women and youth.

The minister emphasized that women play a central role in milk production, processing, storage, and marketing, and that the future of Nigeria's dairy industry depends on empowering them with modern technology, skills, and market access. The initiative includes creating greater opportunities through cooperatives, skill development, and improving access to finance and technology.

The plan also involves establishing women-led milk aggregation cooperatives to strengthen local value addition and improve access to processors. The conference highlighted the nutritional value of milk and its significance in driving economic opportunities and sustaining livelihoods.

Other stakeholders, including Dr. Chinyer Ijeoma Akujobi and Mr.

Fran Oi Gillet, reaffirmed their commitment to advancing Nigeria's dairy sector.
