Team Nigeria Prepares for World Relay Championship 2026

Team Nigeria has commenced its training camp in anticipation of the World Relay Championship, which will take place in Gaborone, Botswana, on May 2-3, 2026. The camp, overseen by Gabriel Okon, the Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), is expected to last a week and will include foreign-based athletes joining the team.

This initiative follows a successful weekend at the Addis Ababa Grand Prix, where Nigerian athletes showcased their skills. Notable performances included Anthony Edward Jr. winning the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 13.61 seconds, and Femi Adekoya winning the women's 400m in 50.28 seconds.

The event also saw strong finishes from other Nigerian athletes, indicating a promising build-up to the upcoming championship. Tonobok Okowa, the President of the AFN, attended the event, highlighting the growing collaboration among African athletics federations, with Ethiopia set to host a gold label grand prix in 2027.
